SafeSport Training Instructions for Athletes and Parent/Guardians (scroll down)
In addition to having its own code of conduct, WJ Crew follows US Rowing SafeSport guidelines, which includes conduct by athletes, adults, and coaches, and provides guidance on what must be reported to the appropriate authorities and to SafeSport and US Rowing. The US Rowing SafeSport program addresses six areas of misconduct: sexual misconduct (including child sexual abuse and/or grooming behaviors), emotional misconduct, physical misconduct, bullying, hazing, and harassment.
WJ Crew requires all athletes to take an online SafeSport course annually. Each athlete must complete SafeSport course training and submit their Course/Training completion certificate.
- SafeSport for Youth Athletes for athletes under 18 (~20 mins).
- SafeSport Training for Adult Athletes who are/will be 18 before 6/1/2022 (~30 mins).

Simple Instructions
- Click the SafeSport training button.
- Click the Enrollment Key tile on the home page.
- Register an account by using the USRowing SafeSport enrollment key referenced in your WJ Crew SafeSport email.
- Select the ‘Sign Up’ button.
- Fill in the required information and any optional information you want to include.
- Make your course selection.
- To finish, select the ‘Sign Up’ button at the bottom of the page.
- Upload your certificate to the WJ Crew Link provided in your SafeSport email (this step for all Athletes or adults completing the more comprehensive of the training options).
More Detailed Instructions
- SafeSport Account
- If you do NOT yet have a SafeSport account
- Open the link for SafeSport.org
- Click on: SIGN UP
- Enter the required information.
- Under “Name of Sport/Organization” enter: “WJ Crew”
- If asked for: Enrollment Key, enter US Rowing code (referenced in your WJ SafeSport email)
- If asked for: Your Membership ID, enter yourUSRowing member number that you received when completing the USRowing waiver.
- If you’ve forgotten your membership number, go to US Rowing and use WJ Crew club code (referenced in your WJ SafeSport email)
- Review the “Terms and Conditions” and click “I AGREE/ DISAGREE”
- If you have an existing SafeSport account:
- Enter your username and password – If you don’t know your password, click “Forgot Password” to get a password reset notification emailed. Follow the instructions to create a new, secure password and log into the training site.
- Click on: LOGIN
- If you do NOT yet have a SafeSport account
- Select the age-appropriate course (listed on main page or in the SafeSport “Catalog”):
- SafeSport for Youth Athletes for athletes under 18 (~20 mins).
- SafeSport Training for Adult Athletes who are/will be 18 before 6/1/22 (~30 mins).
- Click: “Enroll” to begin your course
- Once completed, follow the certificate download instructions to access your certificate. SafeSport Troubleshooting:
- If you do not see your certificate and need support, call SafeSport Technical Support (720) 676-6417
- Request support through this SafeSport Help Portal (expect ~24 hour reply time)

- Upload your certificate in SportsEngine. Sign into your SportsEngine account with the link provided for Athletes in your WJ SafeSport email (referenced in your WJ SafeSport email) and follow instructions. If you don’t know your password, click “Forgot Password” to get a password reset notification emailed. Follow the instructions to create a new, secure password and log into the training site.
- Enter your information for “Who Registering?” as instructed
- Enter your SafeSport information as instructed (e.g., Course Name, Date Completed) and upload your SafeSport Certificate
- You should receive an SportsEngine email confirming your SafeSport Certificate has been “registered” and has been submitted.
For parents/guardians and adult volunteer chaperones.

WJ Crew recommends one adult representative for each athlete complete some level of SafeSport training. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to complete EITHER:
- The “Parents Guide to Misconduct in Sport” (~30 mins.) OR
- The comprehensive Safe Sport training (~90 min.).
- Any adult is welcome to complete this comprehensive course.
- Adult Volunteer Chaperones: this training is mandatory.

More Detailed Instructions

- If you do NOT yet have an account on SafeSport.org: i. Click on SafeSport.org and select the Enrollment Key “tile”
- Enter the WJ Crew US Rowing SafeSport “enrollment key” (referenced in your WJ SafeSport email) where it says “key name”.
- Enter the required information.
- Under “Name of Sport/Organization” enter: “WJ Crew”
- If prompted for: Your Membership ID, enter your US Rowing member number that you received when completing the US Rowing waiver.
- If you do not have a USRowing membership and are serving in a support role, USRowing offers a free limited membership for volunteers associated with USRowing member organizations. You can sign up for this free limited membership here.
- If you’ve forgotten your membership number, go to US Rowing and use WJ Crew club code (referenced in your WJ SafeSport email)
- Click on: LOGIN
- If you have an existing SafeSport account

- Click on: LOGIN
- Select the appropriate course (listed on the main page or in the SafeSport catalogue):
- The SafeSport course “Parents Guide to Misconduct in Sport” (30 mins.); OR
- Comprehensive SafeSport training (30 – 90 mins.) which is required for adults who wish to serve as chaperones. Adult Chaperones MUST complete one SafeSport training each year.
- If you are new to SafeSport, you should complete the core/initial training (~90 mins). A person who has completed a core/initial training, should proceed to the next short-refresher training listed in their SafeSport account saved under “My Courses.” As of Jan. 2022, the full sequence of courses should proceed as follows:
- Core or Initial Training: SafeSport Trained – NGB1 (~90 mins) – course for people new to SafeSport.
- Refresher 1 – Recognizing and Reporting Misconduct – NGB1
- Refresher 2 – Preventing Misconduct – NGB1
- Refresher 3 – Creating a Positive Sport Environment – NGB1
- If you are new to SafeSport, you should complete the core/initial training (~90 mins). A person who has completed a core/initial training, should proceed to the next short-refresher training listed in their SafeSport account saved under “My Courses.” As of Jan. 2022, the full sequence of courses should proceed as follows:
- Note: You may come and go from any single training course; SafeSport saves your place within that course.
- Click “Enroll” to start your course. If your course displays a $20 fee Call SafeSport Technical Support (720) 676-6417 to explain “my account should be affiliated with USRowing but shows a $20 charge.”
- If you completed “Parents Guide to Misconduct in Sport” your task is complete!
