SRAA National Championships in Dillon Lake, Ohio (boats that qualify, will be excused from school)
Thursday May 23 - Saturday May 25
WJ at SRAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS MAY 24-25 Dillon Lake Nashport OH
We saw an amazing weekend of racing by our athletes in Ohio! This was a culmination of an incredible 2018-2019 year with the team making great strides in all areas.
At the National level, our Varsity 4 Men placed 6th overall! Way to represent our team on the map!! We took 4 boats to Nationals, the biggest group we’ve ever taken – a Men’s and Women’s Varsity 4 and Men’s and Women’s Junior 8.
Women’s Varsity 4
Placed 4th in their heat, which was exceptionally difficult – the 3 boats ahead of them placed 3rd, 7th and 8th overall.
Men’s Junior 8
Placed 6th in their heat which was also difficult. They closed the gap between us and W.T Woodson from the Stotesbury semifinal to just 1 second.
Women’s Junior 8
Had a super close heat where they took third to advance to the semifinals by .27 seconds over Liverpool. There were down on Liverpool with 100 meters to go and it led to a very exciting finish. They would place 6th in their semifinal.
Men’s Varsity 4
After winning their heat to advance straight to semifinals, the V4 had a back and forth battle with Loyola Academy in the semifinal. We would end up taking it in the last 50 meters to place third and get the last qualifying spot in the Grand Final. The boys would place 6th overall in a very fast Grand Final that saw the silver medal crew from Stotesbury take 4th.
We are so proud of our student athletes who demonstrate daily what it takes to become a strong rower and person of the world beyond the boats. These kids balance their academics, talents, and their sport admirably. Congratulations to our crew on their efforts and proven successes this year!
Best wishes to our graduating Class of 2019! WJ Crew is a large family, with strength in body and heart. We always have a place at home together. ♥️
