Heading into the 2015-16 rowing season, Walter Johnson Crew is excited to welcome three new coaches to the team!
- Our new head men’s coach is Andrew Lalley, a DC area native, who has returned from an impressive stint rowing with the elite University of California at Davis crew team. While president and captain of the UC Davis squad, he earned a B.S. in physics, accomplishments to inspire our own WJ crew scholar-athletes. We’re looking forward to an exciting and competitive year under his leadership!
- Matt Siegel joins us as a new men’s assistant coach. Added to more than 10 years’ experience coaching sports, Matt has eight years as an enthusiastic crew dad under his belt. His commitment to crew is evident from his service as launch driver and crew umpire, topped off with US Rowing Level I and II coaching certifications. We are grateful that he will share his dedication for coaching crew with the WJ team.
- Finally, we are so delighted that WJ Crew alum Emma Merrick is back as our new women’s assistant coach. One of WJ Crew’s all-time standout rowers, she led some of the first WJ boats to the SRAA National Championships. Since then, she has rowed four years in Philadelphia at LaSalle University and has racked up much success, including a recent third place in the Atlantic 10 Championships petite finals. Welcome home Emma!
Andrew, Matt and Emma join returning head coach Emma Green and assistant men’s coach Chris Graves to round out this fall’s coaching staff.
