WJ Crew (the Rowing team for Walter Johnson High School) is excited to announce that we will be starting a middle school program this year! The program is open to current 8th graders at both North Bethesda and Tilden Middle Schools! This is a great opportunity to learn a new sport, and prepare for joining the team upon matriculation to WJ! Rowing is a great sport to make friends, race hard, and also looks great on a college application!
What: The middle school program will introduce the basics of the rowing stroke and work on building technique and fitness over the course of the school year. Middle school rowers will get to know our coaches as well as some of the high school athletes who may assist from time to time with the program.
Where: Practices will be held at our boathouse at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park (4601 Annapolis Rd, Bladensburg MD 20710).
When: For the Fall, practices will generally be held on Saturday from 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM. Practice times may change due to weather and the team’s race schedule, but will primarily be in that time period. The first practice will be September 15th and practices will run through mid-November. It is not mandatory, but highly encouraged to attend all practices, as we progressively build upon previous sessions.
Cost: The cost of the program is $200 for the Fall.
If you have questions about the program, or rowing, please contact Head Coach Andrew Lalley at andrew@walterjohnsoncrew.org.
Please sign up on our interest form to receive information once the registration link is available (likely in mid-late August).
