It's that time of year again! As the new school year approaches, so too does the fall rowing season. This year, the season for all returning rowers and coxswains starts Tuesday, September 5th and runs through November 12th, with the novice season starting on September 18th. The fall season is built around increasing strength and endurance, while focusing on technique on and off the water. Our tentative fall racing schedule includes at least six regattas, including the Head Of The Anacostia race here in DC, Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta in New Jersey, and the famed Head Of The Charles regatta in Boston -- one of the largest and most prestigious regattas in the world. For the complete schedule of events and dates, see the WJ Crew Calendar. The registration fee for the 2017 fall season is $895 per student. In general, all costs associated with fall practices and races are included in the registration fees. (Please note that there will be additional travel-related costs for regattas that require overnight trips, such as Head of the Charles and the Frostbite/Bill Braxton regatta weekend)
Important dates- 1. Wednesday, August 30 at 6 pm is the WJHS New Student Picnic. This is a big recruitment event for the team and recruitment is vital to our continued success. Rowers should plan to attend in WJ Crew gear to chat with incoming freshmen. There will be candy and SSL hours 2. Saturday, September 2nd is the Registration Deadline for Varsity, see details and registration link below. Fall season cost is the same as last year at $895 for varsity. 3. Tuesday, Sept 5 is First Day of Varsity Practice. 4. Wednesday, September 13 is our MANDATORY all team meeting at the Windermere Clubhouse. This will be a "working" meeting so please bring your calendar, a pen and your patience. The meeting, which will include a coach's report and car magnets, is expected to last about an hour. 5. We look forward to another great WJ Crew season!! Rowers need to be registered by September 2nd in order to ride the bus to Bladensburg on September 5!! A few things to know before you register. In addition to your on-line registration, we need: 1) Medical Form - please send a scanned copy of your rower's medical form to admin@walterjohnsoncrew.org 2) WJ Waiver 3) Click here to register remember, you will use your Sports Engine account as you did last spring Have your health insurance card, child school ID# and your credit card handy! You will be able to choose to pay in full or pay in 3 installments. The Fall Season registration fee is $895. If you chose to pay in installments the First payment of $395 is due at the time of registration, Second installment of $250 is due September 15 and Final installment of $259 is due October 15. The online system will automatically charge your credit card on these dates.
If you want to pay in full by check the check must be received by Christie Gibbons by 8/31/17, so she can provide you with an access code to put in when you register your rower. No Checks will be accepted after August 31st. If you receive an access code from Christie please have that handy when you register your rower. The registration will take about 10 minutes.
