WJ Crew’s Winter Conditioning Season starts on Monday, December 2nd. In the winter, the rowing team spends time off of the water to make sure they are well conditioned for the spring racing season. It is a great opportunity to learn the basics of the rowing stroke and get in shape for the spring season. The team welcomes all athletes to participate, even if they are just using the season to stay in shape.
The winter conditioning season consists of daily practices after school on either the team’s rowing machines at the school or at the Washington Sports Club in G Square. Registration provides teammates with a WSC membership that runs through March 15th, that will allow them to use the gym outside of practice times. The coaches use workouts to increased strength, conditioning, and work on the technical aspects of the sport.
The team also participates in one of the largest indoor competitions in the World at MidAtlantic Erg Sprints in early February. Registrations fees for Erg Sprints are included in the winter registration fee. The season runs through the end of February.
