(REGISTRATION LINK IS NOT AVAILABLE YET – PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON! BUT THIS PAGE HAS A LOT OF OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION!)
This Fall we are pleased to offer varsity rowers both a virtual and hybrid model. Our goal is to get as many varsity rowers on the water as possible, but also offer a virtual model for those who aren’t able to participate fully with on the water practice, for whatever reason. The structure of each program including cost, etc. is outlined below.
Cost – $495 (TBC’s similar program is expected to cost $1,000)
Those who sign up for the hybrid model will be able to take advantage of water sessions as well as all the virtual components to the fall season. Our goal is to get everyone at least 3 sessions per week. This will depend on demand and availability.
The hybrid registration will cover September 8th (first day of water sessions) to October 31st, but our goal is to keep rowing on the water as long as the weather permits. Given that we are trying to keep costs as low as possible, we will reassess if a new fee will need to be assessed after October 31st. This will also largely depend on whether we can continue to offer as many water sessions as temperatures fall.
Hybrid participants will be able to request a pair partner, but coaches will ultimately assign partners based on matching up skill and availability. Participants will also be assigned to a “cluster” of 4 (2 pairs of partners). The “clusters” will be able to row in a 4 if case numbers permit, as well as fill in if someone within the cluster can’t make their water session. These “clusters” will not change for the duration of the program.
We have secured equipment from various crews at Bladensburg, so the coaches will make a weekly schedule based on availability of this equipment.
Cost – $50
The virtual model will run concurrently to the hybrid model. This will include weekly workout plans, virtual team hangouts/events, zoom workouts as well as other sessions (rowing movies streamed, goal-setting, nutrition, hopefully guest speakers etc.). We will try to work in fitness tests/competitions as possible, and compete in some of the virtual rowing competitions available this Fall (see Head of the Charles). The goal of this program is two-fold – to supplement the on-water portion for hybrid as well as keep those who are unable to participate in hybrid well-connected with their teammates and motivated to train on their own.
Given the uncertainty with getting water time for coxswains, it is recommended they sign up for the virtual program. This will entitle them to cox a 4 if that becomes a possibility. There will also be a coxswain specific portion of the virtual program. If they would like to give rowing a try, then they are more than welcome to sign up for the Hybrid version.
The sportsengine registration is being set up as we speak. If you are planning on registering, please fill out the following form, so we can begin to plan the first week of practice, the Week of September 8th. Our goal will be to set a fairly consistent schedule so you can plan your weeks accordingly. Though not the official registration, the coaching staff will take filling out the form as a commitment to register for the Fall so we can plan. If you have multiple siblings in your household, please fill out the survey for each athlete.
Please fill out all times you are able to get to the boathouse for a water session. Some time slots may only be as sunlight permits (5:30-7:30 PM). And all time slots may not be available every single week. Some weeks most of the available slots will be in the mornings – if you only select afternoons, this may impact the number of times we can get you on the water. Our goal is to make scheduling equitable so people can get a mix of mornings, afternoons, etc.
In addition to your on-line registration, we need:
1) Medical Form – you can upload the medical form on your Sports Engine Registration. (FYI, due to Covid, medical forms are now temporarily good for two years instead of one.)
2) US Rowing waiver – US Rowing code for WJ is : KQ6D6
3) Click here to register (NOT AVAILABLE YET – COMING SOON!) – Remember; you will use your Sports Engine account as you did last spring.
Have your health insurance card, child school ID# and your credit card handy! Yes, you can pay by credit card!
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please email Coach Lalley, email@example.com.
Our goal is to make sure everyone can participate, so if cost will be an issue please reach out to our Board Chair Karen Meacham to see if there is something we can work out.
