WJ Crew is gearing up for our Spring 2021 season! Now is the perfect time for new members to join. While this has been a very difficult and often isolating school year, WJ Crew coaches have dedicated themselves to keeping the rowers and coxswains engaged and active. We feel incredibly lucky to have been able to have a great fall season on the water. Our rowers have said that getting down to the river several days a week to row has had an enormous positive effect on their ability to cope.
WJ Crew is Walter Johnson’s club rowing team. We typically have about 100 athletes and compete amongst private and public schools across the region. Racing takes us from our home course in Bladensburg, MD to all around our region as well as to Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Ohio. Rowing is a great sport to build confidence, gain athleticism, and make new friends. It is the ultimate team sport! We typically practice every day after school, but, this spring we have made adjustments due to the ongoing Covid situation. This spring we will continue to practice the many Covid safety measures we implemented in the fall that allow the rowers to safely have a great time on the water.
We are actively recruiting new members and are looking for current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders at WJ who want to join one of WJ’s most successful teams. No experience is necessary – we will teach you how to row. Learn to row and race this spring and come back next fall for (hopefully) a full season with the team in-person at WJ! TRY IT OUT FOR A WEEK BEFORE PAYING!
